Palestinians/ the Eternal Wailers

As an Indian Christian i had this admiration for Israeli David who felled the giant Palestinian fighter Goliath with his catapult. So when Indian government favored the Palestinian state over Israel I used to be emotionally aligned with Israel till i read the Arnold Toynbee's article about the history of Israeli/Palestinian conflict which explained the injustice done to Palestinians very lucidly.Still the Munich Olympics,Laila khalid hijacking of 3 planes and burning them in desert of Jordan,Black September and Entree raid all were moulding opinion of Indians like me.

"The great seers of ancient India saw so far ahead of their time that the world has to wait centuries yet to appreciate their wisdom, and it is this very inability on the part of their own descendants to appreciate the full scope of this wonderful plan, that is the one and only cause of the degradation of India." Swami Vivekananda Selections from the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Kolkata: Advaita Ashram, 1986, pg.466-7.

Prehistory and Legends of Kerala

There is a reference to the Kerala regions in the Kishkindha Kanda of the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana of Valmiki. This is in the context of King Sugriva briefing his messengers about regions lying south of their kingdom where they can look for Sita. In an earlier blog, I have speculated that the Ramayana story taken along with Gauda-Saraswatiya and Nambudiri traditional lore probably indicated that the Konkana-Kerala coastal region west of the Sahya mountains could have been reclaimed from the sea at a time within the interval between the Bala Kanda and Kishkindha Kanda periods in Dasarathi Rama's life in India's very ancient history.

 Partha wishes  today

  • to hope that there can be fewer negatives, less evil, less malice, no despair,  no frustration
  • to hope that all will learn poise, balance, moderation
  • to wish away the option of violence in a solution to any problem
  • to hope that there will always be better options, better choices than violence
  • to believe in  healthy disagreement, healthy discussion and healthy decision making
  • to wish for bias free appreciation all over the world for what sanatana dharma stands for and what it has to offer
  • to deny sanatanic labelling for any intolerant attitude towards any person or group by self styled sanatanists
  • to wish all medhavis a fantastic, joyful New Year 2009
  • and to hope that they will all continue to do their wonderful work to make the earth a little better every day

And Now featuring our Resident Philosopher, Dr. RamaKrishna Puligandla --

Ravi of Medha Journal went and interviewed Dr Puligandla at his home. Gracious host as ever, he spent the better part of a relaxed afternoon answering the curious seeker, the new Medhavi, as it were.

The Interview Session Begins...

(Introduction to the Medha Gold Interviewee:)

Dr Ramakrishna Puligandla is a Professor Emeritus at the Univ of Toledo , and after a long and distinguished career in both Physics and Philosophy, with a PhD from Rice University, he is an authority comfortable in both worlds. He was born in pre independence India and came to the US after his electrical engineering degree to pursue further studies.
