kAla bhairava ashtakam

Shiva is Energy in matter domain. Universe evolves on energy through eight evolutionary processes that are time-irreversible. Time-irreversible means there is no way of realistically reversing these processes. They can move only forward in time. These time-irreversible evolutionary processes are called ‘arrows of time’ in modern science.

The eight arrows of time are the kAla bhairavas. kAla means time. Bhairava means fearsome. Since these eight processes cannot be reversed, they are the ‘feared’ Lords of the Universe (jagapati). kAla bhairava ashtakam describes these eight arrows of time in eight stanzas.

How understanding kAla bhairava ashtakam removes moha, shoka, kopa, taapa, increases punya, jnana..? In nature, everything arises as complementary pairs. In consciousness, ‘Memory’ and ‘Will’ are complementary pairs. Memory holds the past, but cannot know the future.

Will cannot do anything with past, but can influence the future. Memory, being about the past, is the ‘kAlA’. This past memory has moha, shoka, kopa, taapa etc.. It cannot be reversed. Hence we have to only use the complementary pair of Memory, the Will. Not burdened by memory (the irreversible past), only using the Will to influence future increases puNya, jnana and removes moha, shoka, kopa, taapa etc..

Being in that state of using the 'will' always to influence the future, without burdened/pained/impacted by past is the state of Ananda, the bliss..
